About Cameras

Q-See offers a variety of cameras: Weatherproof, Night Vision, Pan Tilt Zoom, with Audio, Wireless and IP Network. Select a camera based on the size and conditions of your premises to catch activities. The various cameras can be mixed and matched to tailor a surveillance system for optimum coverage of each area.

CCD or CMOS:
Cameras are made using CMOS or CCD technology. CCD cameras use a digital chip process that converts each pixel into a digital value giving a sharp image with less noise and good image quality in low light conditions. Cameras with CMOS sensors are economical and require less power, but it is not as light sensitive.

Enhanced Infrared Cut Filter: Allows for a sharper quality picture, more accurate colors, and better image quality in the day or night than standard surveillance cameras.

Sony Effio-ETM:
New Technology! This elite class sensor preserves the sharpness of images with excellent noise reduction and high performance in low light conditions. Effio-E delivers high color reproduction unmatched by other camera sensors.

Wireless:
Wireless cameras are popularly known for convenience, but it still requires a wired power source and needs to be plugged into a nearby outlet. It is important to mention that most wireless cameras operate on a 2.4GHz frequency, which can encounter interference issues from electronics and appliances in the vicinity. Additionally, a wireless camera must be in the line of sight of the receiver, without obstructions. Q-See offers a digitally-based wireless camera, which helps to limit the interference, but in order to achieve the highest quality recordings, it is best to go with wired camera.

Audio:
Some Q-See cameras come with built-in microphones which enable you to record sound. Separate microphones can also be used in conjunction with a camera. Ensure your DVR has audio recording capabilities.

Pan-Tilt-Zoom (PTZ):
PTZ cameras can rotate 360 degrees, move up and down, and zoom in and out to dynamically expand your surveillance. You can control the camera through the DVR buttons or the remote, and in most cases, also control it over the Internet.

Resolution:
Surveillance cameras produce different levels of image quality and are rated based on the number of horizontal lines it produces. Q-See provides cameras with TV line resolution starting at 400 TVL up to 650 TVL and more; the larger the number of lines, the higher the resolution and the clearer the picture. It is important to select a camera resolution that fits with how much image detail is required.

Night Vision: Many of Q-See's surveillance cameras are equipped with infrared LED lights to record video in dark conditions without needing an additional light source. Q-See provides from 18 feet up to 200 or more feet of night vision. The camera will record in color during the day and black and white at night.

Weatherproof Cameras:
Q-See provides cameras for all types of conditions. Weatherproof cameras are suitable for both indoor and outdoor use. Indoor cameras are suitable for indoor use only.

Decoy Cameras: Q-See Decoy cameras appear just like real surveillance cameras that deter unwanted visitors. Q-See's Decoy cameras feature a blinking light in the dark to provide a realistic effect of an infrared LED light.

Cables: Every Q-See camera includes a 60 foot cable for quick and easy installation. Q-See also sells extension cables, connectors and everything you need to install in all types of situations.

Standard Cables: To maintain video quality, do not extend standard cables beyond 180 feet. Additionally, standard cables are not approved for use inside a wall, and should only be run externally.

Shielded RG-59 Cables:  If a cable needs to be extended longer than 180 Ft, or if it needs to be run inside of a wall, ensure that a proper shielded cable is used. Q-See offers the shielded cables in different lengths and they can be extended up to 1,000 feet without losing video quality.

* Always check with local, city and state building codes before installing cables.

Lens:
A camera's lens determines the size of the image and viewing area. A 3.6mm lens will give you a smaller image, but a larger field of view. A 6mm lens will give you a larger image, but a smaller field of view. The larger the lens size, the larger the image and the smaller the field of view. Q-See also offers cameras with Varifocal lenses such as 2.8mm to 12mm, allowing you to choose between a 22 to 81 degree field of view.

Mounting Brackets: Most Q-See cameras come with theft-deterrent, flexible, 3-Axis brackets, which allow for more precise positioning of the cameras, while guiding the cables directly through the camera brackets to reduce the threat of vandalism to the cameras. The mounting brackets are capable of accomodated a variety of surfaces and angles.

*Always verify the specifications of each camera, as not all cameras come with the same features.
